Welcome
You are here because you have signed up for an AIARE Level 1 avalanche course with Alpenglow Expeditions. We are united by a love of the mountains and a desire to play among them in the winter. By whatever means you do that, being aware of the potential avalanche hazards where you want to go and how to create a plan to manage those hazards, is the key to being able to continue playing in the mountains for a whole lifetime.
If you have any questions during the process, don't hesitate to contact us at [email protected] or call us at (877)873-5376

Course Overview
UNDERSTANDING AVALANCHES
This is where the online educational material for your course begins. There are multiple lectures leading up to the main structure of the AIARE Framework.
AIARE FRAMEWORK
The AIARE Framework is a practice you will learn about and use every time you go into the backcountry to anticipate hazards, create a plan in response, maintain situational awareness, and reflect on your experiences in order to learn. There are several small quizzes at the end of each lecture you'll need to complete before continuing to the Final Exam.
FINAL EXAM
When you have completed all the coursework and feel ready, it's time to take your final exam. Please complete this no more than 2 weeks before your course start so that the information is fresh in your mind when we all take it outside!
IN THE FIELD
This section includes our favorite Tools & Resources that we use daily in the Tahoe area, including a guide to layering up for your field days.
